Darcy, always Darcy

I could not name this post so without including a pic of the man himself, ladies reach for your smelling salts the danger of swooning is about to increase.

Mr-Darcy-Evening-Splendour1(ding dong, Colin Firth will remain the ultimate Darcy for me, most dashing Austin male by a mile!). Now onto to some sewing. So about 4 years after I made this dress I finally managed to take some more photos of it!

Cakes & predudice 009It was originally made for flatmate Mel’s Pride and Prejudice inspired hen do, for which we took to the grounds of Lyme park in Cheshire (in the middle of winter, well that’s what it felt like, original post here). I brought it out of the wardrobe as I’ve finally started work on a book of makes/portfolio of all the different things I have made. Today seemed like the perfect moment to photograph it for 2 reasons

1/ Its a lovely day, so perfect for some sunny photos (alas the dress is actually 2 layers so I was a bit hot).

2/ Digital UK channel drama are showing the entirety of p&p on Sunday nights from here on over the summer (more news about that and a very silly statue can be found here http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/mr-darcy-giant-colin-firth-statue-in-londons-hyde-park-recreates-pride-and-prejudice-scene-8695490.html). Cakes & predudice 014(as usual the chickens decide to get in on the action…). Unfortunately my costume is not quite accurate, I couldn’t resist making the top layer from William Morris fabric which obviously wasn’t around till the Victorian period. Still I think its lovely.

Continuing the Austin theme I went with Mum & Dad to Winchester a few months ago and managed to pick up these amazing Christmas tree decorations of Elizabeth & Darcy.

Wilderness 025They are now guarding some of my books on my biggest bookshelf, very nice!

Wilderness 023I also found in a bookshop the Jane Austin Sewing box, a lovely idea, sewing patterns from the Austin period, unfortunately a bit light in content I felt so I left it on the shelf. Looking forward to the first episode of P&P tonight, have reserved my seat on the sofa with the cats already!
